Site Location and Immediate Context

This exhibition introduces the proposal for St John Fisher Catholic Comprehensive School.

Wates have been commissioned to develop a new school on land off City Way to replace the existing upper school on Ordnance Street which is in poor condition and no longer fit for teaching and learning, and the lower school in Maidstone Road.

The new school which is located to the south east of Rochester and south west of Chatham town centre will provide a 6-form entry secondary + sixth form school with associated facilities with a total capacity for 1185 pupils.

Before we submit our planning applications we are asking the community to comment on the proposal.

The proposed school building will be 9,065m2 in floor area and is programmed to open in Spring 2023, subject to planning permission.

The works associated with this proposal include:

  • Construction of the new school building containing both teaching and support areas. Associated areas include the chapel, hall, drama and learning resource centre as well as a four court sports hall
  • New hard and soft landscaping including trees, hedgerows, grassed areas, seating and social spaces and security fencing
  • A welcoming entrance and community hub
  • On-site car parking including accessible and mini bus parking bays; cycle parking for students, visitors and staff; and dedicated delivery service yard zone
